How PARS supports responsible practice—and the important limits of a membership society’s role.

Supporting responsible practice

PARS promotes child-focused, impartial, and professionally responsible parenting assessment practice. This includes attention to the assessment mandate, family safety, cultural and individual context, appropriate methods, transparent reasoning, and the limits of the assessor’s expertise.

PARS supports professional learning and dialogue. It does not direct the conclusions reached by individual assessors.

Membership

Membership is considered through the Society’s criteria and application process. Each member remains individually responsible for maintaining any required professional registration, practising within their competence, and meeting the obligations of their profession.

Membership in PARS is not a licence to practise, specialist certification, guarantee of competence, or endorsement of any particular opinion or service.

Professional accountability

Members may be accountable to a professional regulatory body, the court, and other professional or legal requirements applicable to their work. Those forms of accountability are separate from membership in PARS.

PARS is not a professional regulator. It cannot make regulatory findings, impose professional discipline, determine legal rights, or alter a court-ordered report.

Directory information

The PARS roster is hosted through CommunityBox. Individual members provide and manage the information shown in their profiles, including practice details and contact information.

Visitors should verify qualifications, regulatory status, availability, fees, and services directly with the member. PARS does not warrant that directory information is complete or current.

Concerns about a roster member

PARS may receive concerns that relate to roster participation or compliance with Society policies. Its role is limited and separate from any regulatory complaint, court process, appeal, or request for a second professional opinion.

PARS cannot change an assessment report, intervene in an ongoing proceeding, suspend a legal deadline, or determine whether a court should rely on an assessor’s opinion. We will advise whether a concern appears to fall within the Society’s scope and may direct the person to another appropriate process.
